About us

The International Women’s Society was founded in 1957 in Lagos by a group of International public spirited women.

Women are one of the most powerful agents in bringing about world change. When women are educated, healthy, and safe, they hope, they empower other women, lift up their families, their communities, and the world.

The International Women's Society was founded to work for the advancement of women of all races, and to encourage and develop the common interests of women.

Its aims and objectives are: 

A. To foster and promote international understanding among all people;
B. To work for the advancement of women and children in Nigeria
C. To help and provide cultural exchanges for women of all races in the area of home making, children, social welfare, health, home finance and education.
D. To discuss problems affecting the various communities in Nigeria;
E. To endeavor to establish relations with similar organizations in Nigeria and other countries.
F. To aid worthwhile welfare and charitable projects;
G. To encourage and develop the common interest of women.

The society is managed by an Executive Committee, whose members are elected on a yearly basis at it Annual General Meeting. The President of the Society heads the Executives. IWS also has six Trustees who are appointed in recognition of their contribution.

Women of all nationalities who are interested in joining the society and who are also willing to serve in any area of work are welcome.
